Raph Hurwitz creates images in the literal sense. Without focusing on a particular subject or scene, he has embraced the emotional connection to photography and shoots predominantly abstract and minimalist work with the intention of recreating a feeling experienced at the moment of capture. Raph creates oversized prints from the medium format negatives to compliment the textures in each of his pieces, and with these he allows the viewer to be sucked in and feel something.
“I find colours, sounds and shapes in nearly everything I see. I sometimes have sparks of elation, and moments of desperate sadness, and I appreciate all of them. I wonder if I can start to nail down what it is that gets to me, whether it’s happy or sad…and in turn, am I capable of capturing what I see with my own eyes that affects me”
